YOUTH TENNIS

We have three beautiful indoor courts and a professional staff who will help improve your child’s game. Junior players never pay for court time and scholarships are available for all tennis programs.

RED BALL

This is a dynamic start time, come whenever you can get there--ready to play and have some fun!! Ages 5-8, this is free to all thanks to the Sanford Open! All equipment provided.

ORANGE BALL

This program focuses on becoming part of a team, learning to win and lose graciously, and the importance of effort, sportsmanship and respect. Children participating in this program will also have the opportunity to travel to other facilities on a few weekends to expand their experience. Thrive at the Y Kid’s can do orange ball as part of the program thanks to NITL grant.

GREEN BALL

This is for the beginner and advanced beginner 11-14 year olds. Not quite ready for competitive play, but looking to play more tennis, learn some technique, and strategy. Green ball tournaments on weekends will be offered for this group to expand their experience. Fridays will be Davis Cup.

Lisa Gilbride

Racquet Sports Director

Lisa Gilbride has been directing the tennis program at the CLC YMCA for 21 years.  During her era, the program has gone from a one-woman show on two multi-purpose courts, to a six-person staff on three dedicated tennis courts. The Y is very proud of the tennis program and its outreach to communities throughout the Y’s  service area. The adopt-a-school programs at Nobleboro and Great Salt Bay have allowed us to introduce a "sport of a lifetime" to hundreds of children. The program was recognized by the MTA as Indoor Tennis Facility of the Year in 2012 and continues to be a USTA flagship program in terms of innovations in teaching children tennis. In 2015 Lisa was recognized nationally as the USPTA Community Service Award Recipient. She is a USPTA-certified Elite professional and USPTR certified. Lisa lives in Topsham with her husband, Tim. They have three grown children and a granddaughter!

Georgia Alhers

Youth Tennis Coordinator & Tennis Pro

Georgia Ahlers is the newest member of the tennis staff. She assists Cinda with Stay and Play and brings her uniquely artistic view of tennis to everything she does. A Mount Ararat and Mount Holyoke graduate and tennis player, Georgia has a 4.5 NPTR rating and still enjoys competing on a regular basis. She is USPTR certified.

Larry Rioux

Tennis Pro

Larry is an all around athlete and has coached tennis as well as basketball at the high school and college levels. He is also USPTR certified.

Larry has a no-nonsense approach that pushes you to do your best - he will make you a better player! We are lucky to have him at the Y, so be sure to take advantage of him!

Chantalle Arsenault

Tennis Pro

Chantalle is a USPTR- and USPTA-certified tennis professional, she is teaching juniors, adult group lessons, private lessons and cardio tennis. A 2013 graduate of Bowdoin College, the sociology/education major was a four-year starter for the nationally sixth-ranked Polar Bears. She played number one for Lewiston High School, and she and her teammates were four-year state champions. For the past four summers, Chantalle worked at the Bald Peak Country Club. In her first year teaching tennis professionally, Chantalle was selected by the USPTA New England as 30 and under pro of the year.
