COMMUNITY ART AT THE Y

Rankin_2.jpg

Maine is noted for its vibrant arts communities and Damariscotta is no exception. Most individuals have an appreciation for art through observation or creation. Art is integral in our culture because it provides us with a deeper understanding of emotions, self-awareness, beauty, education and more.  This allows our community a venue to express itself, as well as showcase the talents of artists and children in our area.

Artists

An arts task force has been created to lead the decisions around yearly art selection. The Community Art at the Y Task Force will select art with subject matter that is appropriate for all ages; is non-political; enhances the Y’s vibrancy; and supports the Y’s overall mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This committee is responsible for communication with the artists and will orchestrate the hanging and taking down of art at the end of the quarter.

Artists from Damariscotta, Newcastle, Bristol, South Bristol, Whitefield, Jefferson, Waldoboro, Nobleboro, Bremen and Friendship are eligible to have their art displayed at the CLC YMCA. Several artists will be selected each year to showcase their art.
