About Healthy Kids Day

What is Healthy Kids Day?

Healthy Kids Day is a national initiative focused on improving the health and well-being of kids and families. Celebrated each year, Ys across the country host community-facing events that teach healthy habits, encourage active play and inspire a lifetime love of physical activity.

The history of Healthy Kids Day:

The Y launched the first Healthy Kids Day in 1992 in response to the growing effect of sedentary lifestyles on children’s health. For 34 years, YMCAs and their communities have hosted these free community events aimed to inspire kids and families to keep their minds and bodies active throughout the summer months and beyond.

Why is Healthy Kids Day important?

Children who are happy, healthy and engaged are critical to successful and thriving communities. Healthy Kids Day helps to inspire kids and families to keep their minds and bodies active throughout the summer months and beyond.
