ABOUT THE TENNIS TOURNAMENT

What began as a “Play for Pink” event has evolved into a fundraiser with proceeds now going to support the CLC YMCA’s Livestrong at the YMCA program.

The Livestrong at the YMCA program helps cancer survivors, and individuals currently undergoing treatment, learn to use YMCA facilities for healthier living, find community, and connect with others who share their experiences. All participants receive six months of complimentary access to the YMCA.

The tennis tournament was first created many years ago by Lisa Gilbride, the former director of Racquet & Paddle Sports, and her committee of dedicated ladies. Over the years they have kept the spirit alive by wearing pink, providing delicious snacks, and decorating the tennis lobby to celebrate and support women affected by cancer.

On the day of the event, women from various Y tennis groups come together to play, socialize, and uplift one another. The sense of community is truly special. So special, in fact, that a few years ago, the men decided they wanted their own event—and now host a men’s tournament the following day.
