DAMARISCOTTA, ME— The CLC YMCA wrapped up the first official "New You" 12 Week Challenge last week at the Y with a celebration to award prizes and enjoy a healthy feast. The program hosted 22 participants all feeling healthier and adopting a new healthy lifestyle. The Y will be offering a new session of the 12 Week Challenge beginning April 25th!
About the CLC YMCA "New You" 12 Week Challenge. First prize winner, Donna Strawser, showed an exemplary effort to earn her prize! Donna Mikulak Strawser "What a great group of folks. I have enjoyed being with all of you and thankful to Casey Clark Kelley for all of her organization. It's been a wonderful and challenging program." Donna prize was a One year membership at the Y along with Y wear and 6 hours of personal training! Second place winner was Meghan Kennedy and Third place winner Debra Arter! Program Leader, Casey Clark-Kelley, " I am so proud of everyone who participated in the Challenge. It's amazing to see the healthy changes that everyone has implemented in their lives. All of the Y instructors have loved having new people in classes. With the end of the challenge, participants filled out a survey with suggestions and I look forward to implementing exciting new additions to the next challenge starting in April 25th!" This program included weekly trainings and personal training sessions, along with a points system for activities, participants were able to enjoy some friendly competition. The program also included a array of educational classes such as "Living a Healthy Lifestyle with Anxiety and Depression" with guest speaker Katie Clark, mommy blogger of Live From Timeout, Cooking class at the FARMS kitchen with Karen Kleinkopf. Y members, Carole and Ben Hart presented on "Real Food on a Budget" which was very helpful and informative, and Bethany Rackliff educated the group on the health benefits of essential oils, just to name few! Participant Jim Stano, "Went to Y and had a Personal Trainer Workout and exercised several muscle groups that have been dormant since high school." This is what Nichole Hannan had to say about her first personal training experience with Robin Maginn at the Y: "Wow! Just had my free personal training session at the YMCA after joining the Challenge and we spent the time incorporating strength training into my time there. What a workout that was! I am excited to get stronger muscles and lose weight. I tried machines that I never would have because I never thought I would be able to do them but I could! Nichole on her cooking class at the FARMs Kitchen above Rising Tide "I got there and looked at the food we were going to cook into meals and thought to myself, oh no, 90% of this food I have either never eaten or have eaten and didn't like it.
