SUMMER DAY CAMP RULES AND PROCEDURES
Arrival and Release of Campers
Parents should escort their children into camp. There may be notices for you pertaining to our day. Attendance is taken at the beginning of each day. At the conclusion of the day campers will only be released to the parents or other persons designated by the parent. It is the responsibility of the person picking up the child to SIGN OUT with a staff member. Please provide the camp staff with a list of people allowed to pick up your child. children walking or biking home just have written permission from the parents. One note for the summer will be sufficient.
Snacks & Lunches
Children should bring daily, a morning snack and lunch, we will provide an afternoon snack for those in extended care. Please send your child with a healthy lunch, please do not send soda. Lot's of water is always a good idea. Also please provide ice packs in the lunches, we do not have room in our refrigerator.
Clothing and Footwear
All items of clothing should be labeled with the camper's name. T-shirts issued by the Y must be worn on ALL field trips. Sneakers or closed toe shoes should be worn daily, except on beach days. Children are involved in activities which require lots of movement and sandals are not appropriate. Sandals may be worn on beach day.
T-Shirts
T-Shirts will be given to campers on their first day of camp. They are required to wear these shirts on every field trip. If they arrive without a shirt we will provide an extra one at the cost to you of $8.00. On each days they will be required to wear their Y shirts in the water so they must bring extra clothing for the ride home.
Beach Days
Once a week (usually Wednesdays) we will spend the day at a state park beach. All beaches are staffed with life guard. Children must bring a bathing suit, towel, change of clothes, sunscreen (very important), hat, lunch, snack and a sweatshirts or jacket. Please apply sunscreen on your child prior to arrival in the morning. We will re-apply at the beach or whenever it is needed. Snorkels or flotation toys are not allowed. If your child chooses to bring face masks, fins, or sand toys it is the sole responsibility of the child and they must carry them in a bag.
Emergency Medical Attention
Should your child be injured and in need of medical attention we will take the following steps in providing care:
1. Attempt to contact the child's parents
2. If the Parent or emergency contact is not available, we will notify the ambulance.
3. Have the child taken to the hospital with a staff member if the situation warrants.
Medications
Medications must be brought directly to the staff member, in the original container, with written instructions as to the time and quantity to be administered. Please include the name and number of the child's physician and any other directions necessary. We also require written clearance giving the YMCA permission to disperse the medication.
Absences
To make things easier on the staff and to ensure all kids are accounted for, please inform us if your child will be absent.
Transportation
All transportation is provided school department busses, with licensed drivers.
Field Trips
During the summer, campers will travel to sites of interest around the area. You will be required to sign bus permission slip (at registration time) in order for your child to attend the trip.
Behavior
Do to the increase of unacceptable behaviors in children, we have implemented a No Tolerance Policy. The following is a list of unacceptable, inappropriate behaviors, but not limited to: Hitting, pushing, shoving, name calling, swearing, arguing with counselors/adults, not following directions, not listening. For children displaying unacceptable or inappropriate behavior, these ar the steps we will utilize.
1. Verbal Warning
2. Removal from Activity
3. Call to parents to come pick child up and will not be allowed to attend the following day/week. Serious problems will be dealt with immediately by the camp director and may be an automatic "3". All children attending camp have the right to be safe and have fun! Please make sure your child has a clear understanding of this policy.
