CLC YMCA tennis pro Lisa Gilbride has been the tennis director at the YMCA for the past 14 years.  She is known state and New England wide for her promotion of the sport of tennis.

According to the Maine Tennis Association website, Gilbride "knew teaching tennis was what she wanted to do at an early age and has been on a steady tennis-teaching career path since playing in high school and at Providence College in Rhode Island", where she was named Athlete of the Year.

After graduating from Providence, she stayed on and coached for five years. She then coached the women's tennis team at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass., and also taught private lessons. She moved to Maine in 1985 and taught at the Maine Pines Racket & Fitness Club for 10 years.  She taught varsity girls tennis at Brunswick High School, winning several Eastern Maine and two state titles and was named High School Coach of the Year in 1990 and 1997.

Some other personal achievements include: 1993 Maine Tennis Association Doubles Player of the Year; USPTA certified teaching professional; 2003 USPTA Northern Pro of the Year; 2004 Great Maine Tennis Festival "Key Player"; co-owner and camp director for Maine Pines Tennis Camps at Bowdoin College; and board member of Mid Coast Maine Tennis Association. She was one of the producers of the 2004 Great Maine Tennis Festival where over 350 youth and adults learned to play tennis for free.

In 1996 she started working for the CLC YMCA and was instrumental in developing the tennis program.

Gilbride is modest about the award saying, "They must have drawn my name out of a hat."She said she "had no idea how she was nominated for the award" but surmises it was her contact with the Great Maine Tennis Festival last summer at Bowdoin College in Brunswick."I do some volunteer stuff, but it usually has a hidden agenda of trying to grow the game of tennis," Gibride commented.

"I was humbled," Gilbride said of the award."I know how many volunteers here at this Y who are more deserving than I am."

While Gilbride is shy about tooting her own horn, Wilson had no problem tooting it for her.

Her team includes the following Pros!
Cinda Gurney Holbach
Cinda played for UNC, Chapel Hill, where she was an all American, three time ACC player of the Year, and then played professionally.   Cinda runs most of our junior group lessons, from the 8 to 18 year olds.  She has a great combination of being laid back, yet demanding.   She will improve your game, guaranteed. We are very luck to have her at the Y.

Larry Rioux
Larry is an all around athlete, Larry has coached tennis as well as basketball High School and College levels. He has a no nonsense approach that pushes you to do your best. He will make you better. We are lucky to have him at the Y, take advantage of him.
