Aikido Classes

Beginning in April the CLC YMCA will host an Aikido Class once a week. Aikido is a Japanese martial art based in self-defense which has no emphasis on striking or kicking. It organizes movement logically and without force. A distinctive feature of Aikido is that it does not relay on strength or size but on movement and redirection of force. The body is trained to unite with the movement of the attack so that it can redirect through relatively harmless outlet. Aikido training is not based on competition or winning but rather on repetition and sharing of knowledge. The class will meet on . This class if for students ages 13 and up. This new class is taught by Wesley Andrenyak who started Aikido in 1976 at Hwang's Martial Schools in Connecticut. Sense his move to Maine in 1987 Wes has taught at and run facilities all over the state of Maine.

Wednesday from 6:30- 8pm
$10 for members and $18 for nonmembers.
